Cybersecurity Piktochart
Learning about cybersecurity is imperative to remaining safe and protected with technological advances. The Piktochart I made is to inform the audience on what cybersecurity entails and how an individual can take steps to protecting their identity and personal information.
Reaction to Interview with USF Student
- What are your reactions to her story? After listening to Emily’s story, I was shocked this had happened to someone who went through so much in their life. Also, it is shocking that the person who stole her identity was right down the street. I feel social media and the internet is so vast and enormous, but it does not feel that way all the time. This parallels how insignificant a single being is in the grand scheme of the universe is (not the person is insignificant, but how minutiae of a space they take up on earth or in the universe). The internet is like the universe in a sense that an individual can feel the world revolves around their actions and decisions, when in reality, there is so much occurring that you do not know about. My sister had the same thing happen to her, but not to the extent that Emily went through; but, I know how terrifying getting your identity stolen is. My sister had a student steal her instagram posts and pretend to be her, texting her actual friends. The student did this to most classmates, but my sister has a tendency to delete her accounts and make new ones, so some of her friends thought it was her. The problem was that this child was saying horrible things to others and the students thought my sister was saying this to them. It quickly got fixed and her friends reported the page, but the fear in her eyes and voice showed her distress; I can only imagine how terrifying it was for Emily, since the girl had accumulated followers with more significance and for a longer duration.
- What did you learn from her story? Although I would like to say I learned a lot about the negative sides to posting your life to the internet through this story, but I personally do not have a social media (I say social media because I am not that willing to be social with others outside of my own circle). I do have private accounts, but they are only followed by close friends and family to be able to contact them easier and share new events in my life to people who matter the most to me. Also, I do not tag my accounts under my government name, rather I have pseudonyms that I use to make it very hard to determine it is me.
- How might you use this story to inform your life or that of others? Because I am very paranoid about lots of things in my life, I will use this story to inform others that it is imperative to always think twice and to not trust a lot of things. You do not know who has access to your personal information, so it is important to always stay aware of your surrounds and what you post or allow others to know.
